Greetings all,
The Concerned Black Men of RVA held our “Social Etiquette: Doing it with class” activity on Saturday, May 25th. As in the past, it was held at Ristorante La Grotta, a world class fine dining establishment in downtown Richmond. The event was well attended even though we had to make a schedule change. Everyone was on time, well dressed and had a great experience putting into practice what we covered earlier in the program.
The food and staff were great as usual and most of the boys knew what to expect. They were presented with a four course meal with a choice of entrées consisting of Salmon topped with shrimp, Veal Scaloppini and Filet of Chicken. For dessert there was cheesecake or chocolate ice cream.
This event is a very important facet of our mission in exposing our youth to diverse cultures and enhancing life skills.
We presented Tony and Andrea Capece with a token of our appreciation for their continued support of the Concerned Back Men of RVA! They are truly special friends and their generosity is greatly impacting young men that we serve.
We would like to thank each of you for your patronage and interest in our organization as we come to the close of our program this year! Your support enabled us to take the boys to Monticello, The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and to the IMAX Theatre in the Science Museum! The Concerned Black Men of RVA are looking forward to doing greater things next year and we hope that you will spread the word and continue to give assistance to us as we serve our youth.
Thank you again

The Concerned Black Men of Richmond had our Etiquette Pt2 event at Ristorante La Grotta on May 20th. There were five mentors and twelve mentees in attendance. This has been noted as our signature event by some of our members. We always look forward to this outing.
The owners of La Grotta have opened their world class establishment for this occasion at no charge since 2010. Andrea and Antonio Capece see the importance of instilling proper fine dining etiquette in young people. They have witness the lack of dining protocol especially during prom season.
This year Andrea provided handouts displaying the appropriate way to use and place utensils during a meal. We were then served an exquisite five course meal starting with Bruschetta. Then there was a cold thinly sliced veal appetizer with aged cheese and melon followed by pasta with fettuccine and ravioli. For the main course, there was a choice of fish, veal, or chicken. All were presented with the precision and artistry that Tony is famous for. The dining experience would not have been completed without the Italian classic desert Tiramisu. This was truly a meal fit for royalty!
Our waitress commented that she had never been told “thank you” so many times by patrons in her experiences serving there! It really made our hearts glad to hear that!
All the food taste as good as it looks!
After the meal was completed, we were given a tour of the kitchen. One of our mentees, Malik Mayo is an aspiring sous chef. He was taken behind the line by Chef Tony to show him where he performs his magic.
This was truly an awesome experience for our mentees. Special thanks goes out to Andrea & Tony Capece and the staff of Ristorante La Grotta for going the extra mile in making this event a success.
Thanks to each of you, our donors, for assisting the Concerned Black Men of Richmond in putting an esteem building program such as this together. Words cannot express our gratitude!
God bless each of you, and we hope that you consider us for contributions in the future.

On April 8th the Concerned Black Men of Richmond held our Etiquette Pt 1 event. This event serves as a prerequisite to attending the lunch that is provided by Ristorante La Grotta in May. Since 1994, Chef-Owner Antonio Capece has been captivating guest with his artistic and gifted presentations of Northern Italian cuisine. He and his wife Andrea have opened their restaurant to our organization since 2010 and have provided a priceless experience for our youth.
There were 13 youth corps members and 5 mentors in attendance. It was held at the 2nd Police Precinct on Belt Boulevard and led by William Friday. We discussed proper behavior in a fine dining establishment, dress code expectations, table settings and the types of food that may be presented. Several of the youth shared their past visits to La Grotta and we also demonstrated the proper way to tie a neck tie.
Thank you all for your contributions to the Concerned Black Men of Richmond.
