On April 8th the Concerned Black Men of Richmond held our Etiquette Pt 1 event. This event serves as a prerequisite to attending the lunch that is provided by Ristorante La Grotta in May. Since 1994, Chef-Owner Antonio Capece has been captivating guest with his artistic and gifted presentations of Northern Italian cuisine. He and his wife Andrea have opened their restaurant to our organization since 2010 and have provided a priceless experience for our youth.
There were 13 youth corps members and 5 mentors in attendance. It was held at the 2nd Police Precinct on Belt Boulevard and led by William Friday. We discussed proper behavior in a fine dining establishment, dress code expectations, table settings and the types of food that may be presented. Several of the youth shared their past visits to La Grotta and we also demonstrated the proper way to tie a neck tie.
Thank you all for your contributions to the Concerned Black Men of Richmond.

On Saturday, March 25th, the Concerned Black Men of Richmond had an outing. We focused on problem solving, code of conduct and visited the Maymont Park Nature Center in Richmond. Due to an unforeseen problem, we had to change our event from taking a behind the scenes look at the music recording business.
There were 13 youth corps participants and 3 mentors attending. We spent an hour at Linwood Holton Elementary going over the CBM Code of Conduct and had a discussion on problem solving. The youth were presented with several situations and discussed several ways to solving the problem.
We left the school and visited the Maymont Nature Center. It was good to get them outside and discussing what they knew about the animals they encountered.
They really enjoyed being outside and seeing all the different types of animals up close.
Many had never seen these types of animals before.
Afterwards, we visited Pizza Hut. It turned out be a great outing!

The Concerned Black Men of Richmond celebrated Black History Month by attending the movie “Hidden Figures”. It was the incredible story of three brilliant African American women who worked as mathematicians for NASA during the 60’s who were instrumental in helping launch the 1 st American into orbit. There were 17 youth in attendance and we saw it at the Bowtie Cinema’s on the Boulevard. Sam Burleigh II attended (Bruce’s father) as an honorary mentor at the age of 93!
We followed up the movie with a visit to Pizza Hut.
